The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 99-93 on Wednesday afternoon in the NBA 2K24 Summer League at the Thomas and Mack Center thanks to a strong all-around performance from second-year big Tyrese Martin.

The Hawks led 21-20 after a fiercely contested first quarter, and thanks to a strong second quarter on both sides of the court, Atlanta was able to increase that lead to 10 points. The Hawks managed to escape with a close victory despite the Timberwolves flip-flopping the script in the third and cutting their deficit to one point. Mfiondu Kabengele and rookie second-round selection Mouhamed Gueye both sank two crucial free throws in the closing seconds to help the Hawks.
With 23 points to his credit and additional contributions of four assists, three rebounds, and one steal, Brandon Williams led the Timberwolves. Leonard Miller, a rookie selected in the second round, finished with 18 points, six rebounds, two assists, and three blocks. 13 points, seven assists, one rebound, two blocks, and one steal were all recorded by DJ Carton. Josh Minott finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 1 helper, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. With a slim victory, Feron Hunt finished with 11 points, three assists, two rebounds, one steal, and one block.

Martin finished with a game-high 25 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Seth Lundy scored 14 points while pulling down 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block. Each of Kobe Bufkin and Kabengele's 13 points were accompanied by six and five rebounds. Gueye recorded a final line of 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 steal.
Both clubs are back in action on Thursday night, with the Timberwolves playing the Sacramento Kings in the evening and the Hawks playing the Philadelphia 76ers in the day.
